Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of science workflows and cyberinfrastructure for the support of diverse research environments. This should include a thorough knowledge of cluster computing, diverse data storage platforms, visualization systems, and advanced networking.
  • Strong skills related to the management of highly technical staff and a diverse project portfolio.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to think creatively and strategically concerning emerging technologies.
  • Ability to maintain and establish new working relationships with local, state, and national groups to help support FSU's research efforts.
  • Ph.D. in a science, engineering, or technology field, or other appropriate degree and five years' experience; or a Master's degree in a science, engineering, or technology field, or other appropriate degree and six years' experience; or a Bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, or technology field, or other appropriate degree and eight years' experience as required by position.
  • Experience specifying, purchasing, configuring, and maintaining advance computing and data storage systems for research.
  • Supervisory responsibility of professional technical staff.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • A record of technical or peer reviewed publications.

Responsibilities

This is a 12-month Senior Research Faculty position (non-tenure track) that reports to the Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO). The Director will also have an affiliation with at least one academic unit and will have a permanent position on the FSU IT Governance Council to give this person a vantage over research computing activities and opportunities at Florida State.

The RCC operates within Florida State University as an academic service unit of Information Technology Services (ITS). This partnership enables the RCC to leverage ITS infrastructure and staff and places the RCC in an excellent position to support university-wide research. The Director oversees the professional staff and the students responsible for maintaining core systems, services, and software used to support the university's diverse research portfolio. The Director will coordinate with members of advisory panels and an Executive Board to develop a strategic plan for sustaining FSU's ability to provide high quality research computing resources to its faculty.
