Snort
Introduction
Snort is a powerful and open source tool for network security applications. The tool is primarily designed to do network intrusion detection and prevention and has a myriad of methods implemented to perfom these tasks includng network traffic analysis and packet sniffing and logging in real time.
Using Snort on RCC Resources
There is no specific module that needs to be loaded in order to use Snort on RCC Resources. It is, however, only available on HPC, not Spear. Snort commands can be run simply by calling the command by name. For example, snort -v
is one switch for sniffer mode. For a complete list of commands and modes available in Snort, please refer to the documentation.
