HPC, Spear, and Lustre Export Node Maintenance

UPDATE: May 17 @ 2:45pm

Globus is now available.  If you use Globus to transfer data to and from our storage systems, you can resume operations.

UPDATE: May 16 @ 8:50am

We are making progress on the software upgrade, and we are on-track to restore HPC availability early next week.  However, just to make sure that we have enough staff on-site when we re-enable HPC, we are pushing back the general availability of HPC until Tuesday morning, May 23.

In the meantime, Spear and storage export nodes are available.  We are working through a few residual issues with Globus, and will let you know when that is back online.

We will also publish a list of all updated software within the next few days.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know: support@rcc.fsu.edu.

UPDATE: May 10 @ 12:45pm

Spear nodes are available and online!

The Spear system has been upgraded, and it is back online.  You may login and use the system.  We are still working on a few package issues specifically related to "R", but other software should work as expected.  We'll tweet when the "R" issues have been resolved.

Also, if you previously used NoMachine to connect to Spear, please note that we have replaced NoMachine with a new utility named Xpra.  For details on how to get that working, refer to our "how-to" page: https://rcc.fsu.edu/doc/xpra

We are still working on Globus and Export nodes, but will have them online soon.

UPDATE: May 9, 2015 @ 4:20pm

We are close to bringing up both Spear and Lustre export nodes, but it will be tomorrow before we are able to make them available to users.  Currently, our systems team is ensuring that all packages deploy correctly on the new version of CentOS.  Most software is working correctly, but there are a few popular packages which we need to tweak, including R.

We will post another update tomorrow.

Reminder: The HPC, Spear, and the Lustre Export nodes are down for scheduled maintenance.

  • Spear and Lustre Export Nodes will be available on Tuesday, May 9 at 5pm.
  • The HPC will be available no later than Monday, May 22 at 8am.

We will post updates here as the project progresses.

Refer to our news announcement for full details regarding the upgrade.
